Is this the year of the rookies because here we are with yet another debuting rookie band. But what makes them special is that the group consist of 6 members who are from Korea, Japan, and China. I usually don't do videos that are just dancing but this video has too many memorable dance moves that I need to point out.
Not the typical dance that most K-Pop artist do with a memorable dance to the chorus with sharp moves. These guys just danced however they want without any particular dance for the chorus where it constantly changed from chorus to chorus. They even began the dance on the floor. When I first watched the video I knew from them sitting on the floor that they would be different from other dances out now. The first memorable dance, The Flying Butterfly. So simple, just sit cross-cross, move your legs up and down, while holding up their sign which is making a peace sign with both hands and touching the fingers together. That is it now you are doing The Flying Butterfly.
The next move has a higher level of difficulty. I have dubbed the next move The Snake Attack because it seems like these guys arms are the snakes and they are avoiding their attack. Look at these guys avoiding the snakes in the mostly manly way holding their stance and looking so serious.
The next two moves I think are the most memorable of them all. The Show Bear is a viewers favorite where the hold up their bear claws and move around in a fancy manner. I think this is so out of what people are use to seeing in other K-Pop videos that it seems a little odd but I think everyone forgets that they are a mixed group so the are including that into the dance routine. I still like the move because it is just fun to do.
The other favorite would be The Zombie Step. The same as The Show Bear but instead of holding up the bear claws hold your arms out like a zombie. Now, zombies are a bit popular so it was clever of them to incorporate something that is trendy.
I can't forget about this move, The Wobbly Bird. Such big movements that it is a bit hard to miss or forget this move. They spread and open up everything for this move. I think they went they went all out in this video. Some may think it is a bit weird but the problem is that they have gotten to use to the strong and perfect dances by other groups but for me I like new things and those who are able to experiment.
While everyone was focusing on the dancing I think a lot of people did not notice that the rooms for each member has a deeper meaning then just showing each member looking fierce but a way to indicate each persons role in the group. So just by the video, and a little research, let me introduce each member in no particular order just putting which ever I feel like. The main vocals of CROSS GENE is J.G., hence the whole bunch of mics that surround him. Born January 12, 1993 is one of two of the Chinese members in the group and the youngest. Even though this song isn't intended to show off their vocal you can easily hear that J.G. does have strong vocals.
Next, for no reason for being next, is Casper the friendly ghost (is it only me that thinks that when you hear that name, maybe...). The other Chinese member born March 20, 1991 is the rapper of the group and the eldest. Usually the rappers have a stronger or aggressive appearance in the group and they are no different. Casper the friendly ghost is definitely showing his strength and they make him show his martial arts in what looking like a room from the Kung Fu movies.
The member that most know because of he is an actor before debuting, except me who knew until after he debuted, is Shin Won Ho or his stage name Shin. Born October 23, 1991is one of three Korean members is the one of the visuals of the group. How do I know, well they dress him in pink, put him in a pink room and he still looks extremely hot. If you want to check out his acting he was in Bachelor's Vegetable Store and is currently in Big.
The only Japanese member of Cross Gene is Takuya. Born March 18, 1992 is the leader and another visual of the group. All he did in the video was give different glares at the camera trying to look all mysterious and what not. The room is not well lit with just some umbrella lights to leave viewers wanting to see more. He even slowly unzips his racket during the video giving the deadly glare making it seem a bit erotic.
Up next is Yongseok, the one who can't pull off a jumpsuit. Actually I just think that was a bad choice from the stylist. Anyways, Yongseok is a Korean member born January 8, 1993 is the lead vocal of the group. He has a voice that you can't stop listening to, that is why he is in a room full of speakers. I still can't get past the jumpsuit, so I'll leave it at that.
And the last member, just because, is Sangmin. Another rapper of the group showing off his strength by doing some handstands in a large dark well. The last Korean member who was born July 7, 1992 tries to show off some of his moves to indicate his rapper role. He has a little bit of a competition with Casper. Actually, each of them has someone to compete with because they have similar roles but I doubt that will start any trouble, except I'm still weary of Takuya's death glare.
Just a unique grouping of 6 talented guys from different places in Asia who do not follow the norms of many groups now. I hope they continue this trend in future singles.
