Because these past few weeks have been a little slow for K-Pop I have decided to go back to some that I didn't do before. But in the process of choosing between MYNAME and TEEN TOP (what's with all these band names in all caps) I decided to have a video face off competition between two videos that were release one day apart but have many familiar features. They both have fighting, a girl, great dancing, and big tanks? Let is see who comes on top (little pun) in these categories.
First round is the girl round where each of the videos features on main girl. In MYNAME's music video the female role looks like an older lady or some would say a noona. She plays the role of a girl who is associated with member of a mafia type group, she meets Gunwoo they both fall in love for each other and dies for him. I like videos where the girl is with just one guy and not going to each person in the group like plenty of other videos like the next one.
TEEN TOP's girl is younger and dressed in more modern clothing. I really don't know her role it seems like all the guys fell for this girl and found out about it. This is evident by the fact that they have rings, letters, and know how to get into her apartment. Maybe the lock doesn't work in a apartment where everything looks old. and that is why they can just barge into her home. Either way still looks like this girl was playing around with a lot of girls. Also it looks like she is just arrogantly walking around places doing nothing.
So this round goes to the faithful noona of MYNAME. She has a clear character kept to it and loved Gunwoo until the end. Also I didn't like TEEN TOP's girl's attitude.
Dancing is important in every K-Pop video so let's evaluate them. To evaluate properly I watched to dance video for each song. MYNAME song is a bit of a slower tempo so I felt that for being a slower tempo MYNAME were able to incorporate a lot of strong moves into the song. They did this by having a lot of smoother transitions and movement. Even for the slow song they were able to show some athleticism into the song by doing some handstand by all the members. We cannot forget about the signature move where they give a salute when they sign "Hello and Goodbye" also a lot of twirling. I think that the dance follow the song and is easy to follow.
TEEN TOP are known for their sharp moves and this video was no different. I enjoyed watching their dancing because of how in sync they all look together doing all those sharp moves. A lot of back and forth movement like the shoulders bounce, waves, and sliding on the floor, but they were all well executed. Especially the sliding with the feet movement which was the main dance of the song looks really cool. Changjo made that dance move really look great. For being 6 young guys I think that they know how to dance by showing their sharp movements.
By watching the dance videos I think I did enjoy TEEN TOP's dance a little more than MYNAME's because I like a stronger dance that seems like not everyone can do it. Also I think it is more memorable too.
The lyric to each of the song are similar where it is about breaking up with your significant other. In MYNAME's lyrics first they sing how they are thinking about the person and if the other person is thinking about them too and what they are feeling. Then they go on to say how they still have them in their heart even though she might be continuing on with their life without them. They end it off by say they shouldn't be regretful about the relationship. It has a nice breakup story how one is in a confusing state after a break up.
TEEN TOP once again sing about break up after "Crazy" except instead of going crazy over a break up they are getting frustrated at the fact that they felt the relationship was fake. It is trying convey the message of how it feels to break up with a girl the would continuously lied to you in the relationship. Even "I love you" didn't mean anything in the relationship.
Between the emotional break up against the disappointing break up I have to go with the disappointing break up. This was a bit of a hard choice but I kind of feel bad for the guy in this song where the relationship wasn't a relationship where it was basically the guy who was in the relationship so you kind of feel sorry for him.
The main round is the fighting round. In MYNAME Gunwoo had to go up against 7 older men to fight for his girlfriend. One thing I don't understand in fights like this is why they attack one by one and not all at once. I don't get it they even have guns that they don't use until the end. It seems like this wasn't Gunwoo's first time fighting or using a gun because he seems experienced. This guy is really strong because he is uneffected even getting spot at a short range. This fight had it all and nothing to disappointed with, except he let the girl die but it needed to happen to flow with the song.
Now to Teen Top's fight. It seems like they were in a fight because they are all bruised on the cheek. Do they only punch to the face? Chanjo has holes in his shirt but that's not much. It seems like all five of them got in a fight while Niel was taking a bath. But saying that they were fighting would be exaggerating because it L. Joe and Chunji were only shoving one another when they looked like they were about to kiss (was it only me who though that). Even though it's the Fighter Edition I think I was wrong.
This round is definitely MYNAME because there was an actual fight and not a shoving contest.
So because they are tied each with 2 point we will go to a tie breaker. The tie breaker is the best usage of big tanks. MYNAME starts off with showing his classy car surrounded by big tanks. Shows a bit a mysteriousness that adds to the mafia theme. But why does he have to meet the girl here? Can't he meet her at her house and go out to a nice place. Nope, he had to go where all the men with guns are. Not a good idea.
The TEEN TOP boys are exemplifying the largeness of the tanks. They even try to treat it like a perfect place for a photo shoot by giving different facial expressions and posing. But why are they there is this where the girl takes all the guys see dates? I think from the moment she brings a guy to a weird place like this for their first date I think that is a sign that she is probably cheating on you. I don't think it directly indicates that but still I would be suspicious her reasoning for going to a place with big tanks.
So the last round goes to... MYNAME just because I think it goes along with the storyline of the video while TEEN TOP try tried to look cool.
So overall MYNAME wins just because of the great usage of big tanks. Sorry TEEN TOP but they did put up a good fight, actually not really because they don't know how too.
